Hamstra Wins at Fifth Singles as #7 Tartans Fall at #18 Washington & Lee

(LEXINGTON, Va.) - The #7 Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team traveled to Lexington, Va. on Saturday afternoon and dropped a 7-2 match to the 18th-ranked Generals of Washington & Lee University. The Tartans dual record is now 8-4 while the Generals improve to 14-4.

Carnegie Mellon picked up its first point of the match as the doubles pair of freshman Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) and sophomore Lydia Utkin (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Jerome) defeated Claire Cahill and Chelsea Mixson 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.

The Tartans other point came when freshman Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) won her 11th match of the season.  The freshman defeated Cahill 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.  

The Tartans will next face #4 Johns Hopkins University on Sunday, March 31 at 12:00 p.m. in Baltimore, Md. The Tartans will look for revenge after the Blue Jays won a 5-4 match over them in the finals of the ITA Division III National Team Indoor Championship four weeks ago.
