#7 Tartans Battle at #4 Johns Hopkins in Rematch of ITA National Indoor Championship

(BALTIMORE, MD) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked seventh nationally, was out to seek revenge on Sunday, March 31 against the #4 Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins University after dropping a 5-4 decision in the 2013 ITA National Team Indoor Championship four weeks ago. Although the Tartans battled hard, the outcome proved to be the same as Johns Hopkins outlasted the Tartans Sunday 5-4 in Baltimore, Maryland. The Tartans are now 8-4 while the Blue Jays improve to 7-2.

The Tartans started the match with a 2-1 edge following doubles play with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.  The Tartan sophomore duo of Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) and Chelsea Motie (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) played No. 1 double for the second time this season and remained perfect at the top spot with an 8-0 win over Elaine Baik and Hailey Hogan.  Senior Alexandra Tapak (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) and sophomore Angela Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./St. Francis) won at No. 2 double sby the score of 8-2 over Shannon Herndon and Sydney Lehman.

Just like the match four weeks ago, the Tartans then dropped four of six in singles play to falter 5-4.  At the No. 1 spot, Motie defeated Hogan by a 6-3, 6-0 score and Pratt won over Herndon at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-0 for the Tartans.

Carnegie Mellon will host the University of Pittsburgh on Wednesday, April 10 at 4:00 p.m.
