#13 Tartans Move on to UAA Final with 6-3 Win over #10 Washington

(ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.) - The #13 Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team will be playing for the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship after defeating #10 Washington University 6-3 on Friday afternoon in the semifinal round of the UAA Championship Tournament. The Tartans improve to 12-6 on the year while the Bears fall to 14-6.

After falling behind 1-0 in doubles play, the No. 1 pair of junior Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) and sophomore Angela Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./St. Francis) won 8-4 over Kate Klein and Corinne Rauck to tie the match at 1-1. Sophomore Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) and freshman Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) rebounded from an 0-3 whole to win their second match of the tournament and give the Tartans a 2-1 lead with an 8-4 victory over Theresa Petraskova and Hanna Newstadt at No. 2 doubles.

Following a tough loss by Tsu at No. 4 singles, Cecil gave the Tartans back the lead at 3-2 with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles.

Freshman Elizabeth Martin (St. Simons Island, Ga./Frederica Academy) was the next to finish singles play when she won 7-6(7-4), 6-1 at No. 3 singles over Kate Klein for her second win of the tournament.

With one point needed for the team victory, Pratt found the way with a three-set come back win at No. 2 singles. Pratt overcame a 6-0 deficit after the first set to win 6-4 and 7-5 over Jamie Silverberg for the fifth and deciding match point.

The final point for the Tartans was won by Raschke at No. 6 singles as she took down Corinne Rauck in three sets, 5-7, 6-1, 6-3.

The Tartans will now face #3 Emory University for the UAA title on Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
