Four Women’s Tennis Players Named All-UAA

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Four Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis players found a spot on the University Athletic Association (UAA) team following their performances at the Association Championship this past weekend.  The Tartans placed one singles player and a doubles tandem on the first team and two singles players on the second team following the Tartans' second straight second-place finish at the championship.

Earning first-team accolades was senior Katie Cecil (Huntington Beach, Calif./Ocean View) at No. 3 singles and the tandem of junior Angela Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./St. Francis) and freshman Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) at No. 2 doubles.  Torres was also honored with second-team recognition at No. 4 singles while sophomore Elizabeth Martin (St. Simons Island, Ga./Frederica Academy) joined Torres on the second team at No. 6 singles.

Cecil had a regular season overall record of 11-2 in singles after missing part of the season due to injury, including a 3-0 mark at the championship. Pratt and Torres put together a 2-1 record last weekend while ending the season with a record of 10-2.   Torres and Martin both collected a 2-1 mark during UAA play and ended their seasons with an overall singles record of 19-6 and 13-7, respectively.

This marks the third straight season Cecil was honored on the All-UAA squad.  Last season she garnered a spot on the second team at No. 1 singles and two years ago was a second-team honoree at No. 3 doubles. Last season, Martin received the honor at No. 3 singles.
