Pavia Earns All-America Honors at NCAA Singles Championship

(MASON, Ohio) - Sophomore Vanessa Pavia (Thornwood, N.Y./Academy of our Lady of Good Counsel) of the Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team earned All-America honors at the 2015 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships on Thursday, May 21. The sophomore won her first-round match before falling in three sets in the round of 16.

Pavia, seeded third for the singles championship, defeated Alexandra Fields of Middlebury College 6-3, 7-6(7-2) in the round of 32. She then faced Lewis and Clark's Summer Garrison in the round of 16. Garrison pulled off the upset with a 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 win to advance to the quarterfinals. Pavia earned All-America honors by being a top-eight seed, although her first-round victory would have also given her the award.

Senior Bryn Raschke (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) and freshman Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) also competed at the championships as a doubles pair against Sue Ghosh and Vickie Ip of Amherst College. Raschke and Sidell forced a third set with a tiebreaker win in the second but fell in the end 7-5, 6-7(4-7), 6-4.
