No. 11 Tartans Top Westminster, 9-0

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team hosted Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Champion Westminster College on Monday, March 21 and defeated the Titans by a 9-0 score. The Tartans, ranked 11th in the nation, are now 10-5 for the season while the Titans drop to 10-4.

The Tartans started with an 8-0 win at second doubles by senior Brooke Tsu (Hillsborough, Calif./Burlingame) and freshman Marina Selencia (Birmingham, Mich./Detroit Country Day School). The team's second win came at third doubles when junior Margaret Anne Smith (Singapore/Singapore American School) and sophomore Katie Lai (Hagatna, Guam/St. Andrew's Episcopal School) won 8-0. Sophomore Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) and freshman Minami Makino (Whittier, Calif./Sunny Hills) paired at first singles to win 8-2.

Tsu gave the Tartans a 4-0 lead without surrendering a game at first singles, defeating Gabby Eaborn, 6-0, 6-0. The fifth and deciding point came from senior Abbey Hamstra (Wheatfield, Ind./Kankakee Valley) at sixth singles. She won 6-0, 6-1 against Patricia Pivaronas.

The Tartans will next host 13th-ranked Washington and Lee University on Saturday, March 26 at 12:00 p.m.
