Three Individuals to Compete for NCAA Tennis Singles Championship

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) - Carnegie Mellon University will have three tennis players in the singles field at the 2017 NCAA Division III Singles and Doubles Tennis Championships after senior Nicholle Torres (Weston, Fla./Great Neck South) and junior Cori Sidell (Redwood Shores, Calif./Carlmont) were selected on the women's side and sophomore Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill./Boca Prep International School) was selected on the men's side. The NCAA Singles Championship will begin on May 25 at The Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Torres played number one singles for the Tartans and compiled a record of 18-10 for the season. She played some of her best tennis in the month of April, winning six of seven matches. She'll be making her second appearance in the NCAA Singles Championship field, as she played in the event as a junior.

Sidell will be at the championships for the second time but first as a singles player. As a freshman, Sidell played in the doubles tournament with Bryn Raschke and finished as an All-American after closing the year with a national ranking of eight. This year, Sidell tallied a singles record of 19-9 with a 15-6 mark at second singles.

Levine earned a first-round win at the NCAA Singles Championship last season to earn All-America honors and will look to move farther in the tournament in his sophomore campaign. Levine currently has a singles record of 21-7 with a 15-6 mark at first singles for the Tartans.

The draw for the tournaments will be released on Wednesday, May 24 at the conclusion of the team championships.
