Taylor and Vizelman Receive ITA Regional Honors

(TEMPE, Ariz.) – Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis freshman Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School) and senior Jamie Vizelman (Highland Heights, Ohio / Mayfield) received regional honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Taylor was named the ITA Atlantic-South Rookie of the Year while Vizelman received ITA Most Improved Senior for the Atlantic-South region.

Taylor has compiled a singles record of 28-8 and a doubles record of 26-10 while winning the ITA Southeast Regional Championship and ITA Southeast Regional Doubles Championship. The first-year Tartan plays first singles and doubles and finished second in the nation in doubles play at the ITA Cup in the fall and fifth in singles play. Taylor already has the school record for most singles wins by a freshman and is two wins shy of tying Amy Staloch (2004-2005) for most combined wins in a season with 56.

Vizelman reached the 100 career wins plateau as a junior and currently has 75 career singles wins. This year, Vizelman has primarily played second singles and has recorded the second-most wins on the team with a record of 19-9. The senior has paired with seven players in doubles this year for a 14-10 mark with an 8-3 mark at third doubles with freshman Janabelle Wu.

Neither player is finished for the season as the team continues competition in the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship on Monday, May 20 against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges at 11:00 a.m. in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Once team competition is over, Taylor will continue in the singles and doubles bracket beginning on May 24.
