Tartans Open Play at ITA Cup; Taylor Wins Singles Match

(ROME, Ga.) – Three Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis players opened competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia, on Thursday, October 12 after earning spots in the national tournament with their performances at the ITA Southeast Regional.

Sophomore Divya Venkatarama and senior Danna Taylor started play in the afternoon with their singles matches. Venkatarama drew sophomore Lindsay Eisenman of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, a 2023 doubles All-American, in the round of 16. Eisenmann defeated Venkatarama, 6-0, 6-3.

Taylor was pitted against sophomore Lauryn Douglas of Bethel University in the round of 16 for her third appearance at the ITA Cup in the singles bracket. Taylor was able to win her opening match by a 6-1, 6-2 score and will face sophomore Matia Cristiani of Babson College on Friday at 2:00 p.m.

Venkatarama will also play again on Friday with a 10:15 a.m. match against senior Irene Agusti of Grinnell College.

Taylor's day finished in the doubles bracket with sophomore teammate Anna Chow. Taylor and Chow faced Alisha Chulani and Audrey Yoon of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, falling 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) to the junior and senior pair.

Taylor and Chow will continue action on Friday in the consolation bracket at 5:30 p.m. against senior Sofia Walker and graduate student Kelsey Dorr of St. Catherine University.
