#10 Tartans Strong Singles Play Leads to 6-3 Victory at #20 Denison

(GRANVILLE, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked 10th nationally, traveled to Granville, Ohio Saturday afternoon and left with a 6-3 victory over 20th-ranked Denison University. The Tartans are now 2-1 in dual play this year.

How it Happened:

  • The Tartans fell behind 2-1 following doubles play with the lone point for the Cardinal and Gray coming by way of an 8-6 victory by the third doubles team of sophomore Anika Joshi and freshman Elaine Qian.
  • The Tartans then won five of six in singles play with the match clincher won by Qian with a straight set victory in the sixth spot. She won by the scores of 6-1, 6-0.
  • Junior Sarah Yang, senior Danna Taylor and sophomore Divya Venkatarama also won in straight sets at the top three spots, respectively.
  • Junior Zoe Angell claimed the final point for the Tartans as she won in three sets at four singles.

Next Up

  • The Tartans will next compete on Sunday, February 18 with a pair of matches at the College of Wooster. The Tartans will open play against Wooster at 9:00 a.m. before playing Otterbein University at 12:00 p.m.
