Bio

Mike Belmonte became the first full-time tennis assistant coach in Carnegie Mellon history in the fall of 2010 after serving as the team's part-time assistant for two years. He was promoted to associate head coach in the fall of 2015.

In Belmonte's first season he led the women's team to a 21-3 record, an ITA National Indoor Championship and NCAA Division III Quarterfinals appearance for the first time in program history.

The women's team has continued to represent the university and University Athletic Association in the NCAA Championship since Belmonte's arrival with a fifth quarterfinal appearance in 2015. After a one-year hiatus from the NCAA tournament despite a final ranking of 12 in 2016, the women's team advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 in 2017, falling to eventual national champion Williams College and earned a final ranking of 10 from the ITA.

Belmonte guided the men to a 20-8 record and was named the 2009 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Men's Assistant Coach of the Year in his first year on staff. In his second season he helped lead the men's team to its first trip to the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals. The Tartan men returned to the NCAA tournament in 2016 for the fourth time, and earned a program best final ranking of seven, as Belmonte was named Atlantic South Men's Assistant Coach of the Year for the third time. The 2017 team earned a record of 16-9, placed fourth at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, and closed the year ranked 10th in the nation.

Belmonte earned his second ITA Atlantic South Region Assistant Coach of the Year honor in 2014 for his work with the men's program which finished 18-7, held a national ranking of five, placed second in the University Athletic Association and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Championship. That same year, sophomore Abhishek Alla won the USTA/ITA National Small College Singles Championship.

During Belmonte's tenure, the women have won the ITA National Team Indoor Championship once and finished second five consecutive years.

Belmonte has also mentored NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship competitors in each season with players earning All-America recognition in each of the past nine seasons Belmonte has been on staff. Additionally, Belmonte was named the 2012 ITA National Women's Assistant Coach of the Year.

Prior to assisting the Tartans, Belmonte served as the head coach of Keystone Oaks High School from 2006-2008 and as the head tennis pro at Churchill Valley Country Club from 2007-2009.

Belmonte graduated from Duquesne University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and political science. While at Duquesne, he captained the Dukes as a senior and led the team in victories as a sophomore.
