Women’s Track & Field Finishes Second at Quad Meet

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team hosted its annual quad meet on Saturday, April 7 with Penn State Behrend, Washington & Jefferson College and Westminster College in attendance. The Tartans finished second with 171.5 points, 4.5 points off winning Westminster.

Freshman Erin Kiekhaefer (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) ran a season-best time of 4:46.61 in the 1,500-meter race to place first.  Carnegie Mellon's freshman Hailey Brown (Wellsville, N.Y./Wellsville) crossed the finish line in 12:36.8 in the steeplechase also claiming top honors.

Senior Ivana Moses (New Rochelle, N.Y./Phillips Exeter) turned in a first-place showing and two second-places.  Her jump of 10.50 meters in the triple jump won the event while she took second in the long jump with a distance of 4.92 meters.  In the 100-meter dash, Moses recorded a personal-best time of 13.24 placing second.

Sophomore Jacqueline Guevel (Dallas, Texas/The Harker School) won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.28. She also won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.92.

In the 800-meter run, freshman Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Springstead) crossed in 59.44 to place second while fellow freshman Halley Bayer (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:31.38.

Sophomore Samantha Oleson (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton) threw a distance of 39.32 meters in the hammer to finish second and junior Carissa Iannone (Bedford, N.H./Manchester West) was right behind Oleson in third after throwing 32.92 meters.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Kiekhaefer, Guevel, Spalding and sophomore Kelsey Hallinen (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) placed first with a time of 4:04.48 bested their time from a week ago of more than five seconds.

Junior Carissa Iannone (Bedford, N.H./Manchester West) placed third with a throw of 33.58 meters in the javelin.

The team will be in competition again on Friday, April 13 when the distance members travel to Bucknell University and on Saturday, April 14 at Westminster College.
