Tartans Career-Best Marks Headline at Lid-Lifter Invitational

(GRANVILLE, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team placed third at the Lid-Lifter Invitational held at Denison University on Saturday, January 26.  The Tartans set many career-best marks on the day as the team ended with 98 points.

Senior Carissa Iannone (Bedford, N.H./Manchester West) recorded two-career best marks with her first coming in the weight throw.  Her distance of 10.92 meters won the event.  The senior then had her second career-best distance in the shot put when she threw a distance of 8.42 meters placing third.

Sophomore Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Springstead) also participated in the shot put as she won the event with a career-best toss of 10.23 meters.  Spalding also competed in the high jump where she placed second after clearing a height of 1.42 meters.

Junior Regena Reyes (Newark, N.J./Saint James School) placed third in the weight throw with a career-best mark of 6.91 meters.

In the track events, junior Jacqueline Guevel (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School) continued her was placing first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.36 seconds and followed up with a second-place showing in the 60-meter dash crossing in 8.25.

Sophomore Erin Kiekhaefer (Palo Alto, Calif.) set a career-best indoor mark in the 800-meter run after finish with top honors in 2:22.01.  The 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore Halley Bayer (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), Spalding, Kiekhaefer and Guevel placed second.  Their time of 4:16.92 was 0.36 off Washington and Lee.

The Tartans will be in action again on Saturday, February 2 when they travel to Case Western Reserve University.
