Spalding Breaks Long Jump School Record at Bucknell Winter Classic

(LEWISBURG, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team competed in the unscored Bucknell Winter Classic where sophomore Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Springstead) set the school record in the long jump. The event was held Saturday, February 9 amongst colleges from Divisions I, II and III.

Spalding highlighted the field events for the Tartans with her school record leap of 5.18 meters as she finished seventh overall and had the second best jump among Division III schools. The sophomore also set a season-best time of 26.87 in the 200-meter dash as she finished seventh overall and first in Division III.

Junior Jacqueline Guevel (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School) ran a season-best time of 9.09 seconds in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles before placing second in the finals with a time of 9.11.  Sophomore Erin Kiekhaefer (Palo Alto, Calif.) turned in another Tartan season0best time after crossing the line in 5:15.00 in the 800-meter run to lace eighth.

Senior Emily Wobb (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) turned in a second-place showing in the 3,000-meter run in 10:16.16 while sophomore Halley Bayer (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) finished ninth as she crossed in 10:28.75.

Freshman Rekha Schnepf (McLean, Va./Thomas Jefferson HS for Sci & Tech) placed seventh in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:24.20.

Freshman Jenna Asperslag (Carlsbad, Calif./San Dieguito Academy) recorded two career-best times on Saturday as she finished the 60-meter dash in 8.30 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 28.08 seconds.

The 4x400 meter relay closed the meet with a season-best mark as Spalding, freshman Alexandra Lewis (Milford, N.Y./The Taft School), Kiekhaefer and Guevel finished in 4:12.22 for seventh place.

The team will next be in action on Saturday, February 16 at Kent State University in Ohio.
