Tartans Tune Up for UAA Championships at Kent State

(KENT, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team traveled to Kent, Ohio for the Kent State Tune Up in order to prepare for the University Athletic Association Championships next weekend.

Freshman Priya Patel (Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway) ran to a season-best time of 5:46.52 in the mile while placing 25th overall as freshman Marie Barcic (Mt. Lebanon, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) also recorded a season-best time in the mile, finishing in 5:49.77 in 27th place.

Freshman Erin Persson (San Antonio, Texas/Saint Mary's Hall) set a season-best time in the 800-meter run in 2:31.80, finishing 33rd while freshman Rekha Schnepf (McLean, Va./Thomas Jefferson HS for Sci & Tech) ran the 3,000-meter run for the first time, finishing in 11:20.71 for 20th place.

Also running in the 3,000-meter run was freshman Sophia Greene (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike), junior Leila Bouabdellaoui (Parchment, Mich./Parchment), and sophomore Hailey Brown (Wellsville, N.Y./Wellsville). Greene was 24th overall in 11:43.15, Bouabdellaoui finished 28th in 11:49.39 and Brown was 30th in 11:59.15. Both Greene and Bouabdellaoui recorded career-best times.

Freshman Jenna Asperslag (Carlsbad, Calif./San Dieguito Academy) and Alexandra Lewis (Milford, N.J./The Taft School) both ran the 200-meter dash, finishing in 28.17 and 28.19 seconds, respectively. Lewis later ran the 400-meter dash for the first time this season and finished in 1:01.86.

Junior Marissa Bynoe (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) competed in both the triple jump and long jump, recording marks of 9.66m and 4.06m. Sophomore Jane Kim (Clifton, Va./Centreville) competed in the weight throw and shot put, recording marks of 11.25 meters and 8.87 meters.

Junior Jacqueline Guevel (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School) finished first in her heat of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.20 seconds but did not qualify for the finals of the event. Guevel later finished second in her heat of the 60-meter dash in 8.26 seconds.

The UAA Championships will be next week on Saturday, February 23 and Sunday, February 24 at Case Western Reserve University.
