Tartans Finish UAA Championships Strong, Take Fourth Place!

(CLEVELAND, Ohio) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's indoor track and field team recorded its best-ever finish at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Championships, placing fourth as the event ended on Sunday, February 24.  This year championships were held in Cleveland, Ohio on the campus of Case Western Reserve University.

Junior Jacqueline Guevel (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School) started the day with a second-place showing in the 55-meter hurdles as she crossed the finish line in 8.47 seconds to earn All-UAA honors.  In the preliminaries held on Saturday, the junior posted a season-best time of 8.44. Later in the meet, Guevel picked up points for the Tartans when she ran a career-best time of 1:00.17 in the 400-meter race, placing fifth.

For the second straight day, junior Jane Kim (Clifton, Va./Centreville) recorded a career-best throw. This time, she placed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 10.44 meters earning points for the team.   
    
Sophomore Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Springstead) broke her own school record in the 200-meter race when she crossed the line in 26.74 in the preliminaries. Spalding then topped that time in the finals where she placed fourth with a time of 26.61.

In the 3,000-meter run, senior Emily Wobb (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) ran to sixth place in a time of 10:30.92 while the 1,600-meter relay team of freshman Alexandra Lewis (Milford, N.J./The Taft School), sophomore Erin Kiekhaefer (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto), Spalding and Guevel earned All-UAA with a third-place finish in 4:05.25, to close the meet.
