Tartans Win Five Events at Home Quad Meet

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team won five events during its annual quad meet on Saturday, April 6 as it finished third overall behind Penn State Behrend and Westminster College.

Sophomore Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Springstead) won the long jump with a mark of 4.99m as senior Tori Baggio (Coopersburg, Pa./Springside) placed third in the high jump, clearing 1.43m. In the triple jump, junior Marissa Bynoe (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) took the title with a leap of 9.87m.

The 4x100 meter relay team of freshman Jenna Asperslag (Carlsbad, Calif./San Dieguito Academy), junior Jacqueline Guevel (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School), freshman Alexandra Lewis (Milford, N.J./The Taft School) and Spalding won in a time of 50.36. Guevel later won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.71 and the 400-meter hurdles in a season-best time of 1:02.33.

Sophomore Erin Kiekhaefer (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) won the 800-meter run in 2:20.55 with sophomore Halley Bayer (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) finishing third in 2:27.79.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Hailey Brown (Wellsville, N.Y./Wellsville) finished third in 12:36.50 as senior Emily Wobb (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) finished second in the 1,500 meter run in a time of 4:54.43.

The Tartans also ran well in the 3,000-meter run with Bayer finishing second in 10:46.50, freshman Rekha Schnepf (McLean, Va./Thomas Jefferson HS for Sci & Tech) finishing third in 10:46.54, Kiekhaefer in fourth in 10:47.58 and junior Catherine Paquette (Bethel, Ohio/Archbishop McNicholas) fifth in 10:47.72.

The team will next compete on Saturday, April 13 at Slippery Rock University and Bucknell University.
