Tartans Place Second at Allegheny Tri-Meet

(MEADVILLE, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team traveled north to Allegheny College for a midweek tri-meet with the Gators and Penn State Behrend. The Tartans finished second with 91 points while winning five events.

In the triple jump, junior Marissa Bynoe (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) took first with a season-best jump of 10.16 meters. Bynoe also placed second in the long jump with a leap of 4.54 meters.

In the throw events, junior Jane Kim (Clifton, Va./Centreville) notched a top honor and a third-place showing.  Her toss of 10.11 meters in the shot put won her the event while she tossed the hammer 34.86 meters to bring in third-place honors. Senior Carissa Iannone (Bedford, N.H./Manchester West) threw the javelin 32.81 meters to place first.

Senior Leila Bouabdellaoui (Parchment, Mich./Parchment) turned in a career-best time as she won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:58.85. Freshman Jenna Asperslag (Carlsbad, Calif./San Dieguito Academy) claimed the top spot in the 200-meter race with a time of 27.40 after she placed second in the 100-meter dash as she crossed in 13.08.

Junior Marie Barcic (Mt. Lebanon, Pa.) finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:30.98 while freshman Erin Persson (San Antonio, Texas/Saint Mary's Hall) finished third in 2:32.36.  Freshman Taylor Maggiacomo (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak) turned in a second-place showing in the 1500-meter run with a time of 5:21.21 with fellow freshman Elizabeth Snyder (Semerset, Pa.) crossing in 5:33.15 to place third.

The Tartans will next compete at the University Athletic Association Outdoor Championships hosted by New York University in New York, N.Y., on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28.
