Tartans Start Competition at UAA Outdoor Championships

(NEW YORK, N.Y.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team sit in sixth place after seven scored events on the first day of competition at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships hosted by New York University at Randall Island's Icahn Stadium.

Senior Emily Wobb (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) earned UAA honors with a second-place finish in the 10,000-meter run, finishing in 37:19.69.

Junior Jane Kim (Clifton, Va./Centreville) earned points for the team in the hammer throw with a seventh-place finish and a mark of 33.02m while sophomore Sasha Spalding (Springhill, Fla./Springstead) finished seventh in the long jump with a leap of 4.94m.

Junior Jacqueline Guevel (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School) will be racing in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles after winning her respective heats on Saturday. Spalding will run the 200-meter dash after finishing the preliminaries in a career-best time of 26.24 and freshman Jenna Asperslag (Carlsbad, Calif./San Dieguito Academy) will race in the finals of the 100-meter dash after finishing the preliminaries in a career-best time of 13.00.

Sunday's final day of competition is set to start at 9:00 a.m. with the triple jump and 10:20 a.m. with the 4x100m relay.
