Guevel Named Academic All-District

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University junior Jacqueline Guevel (Dallas, Texas/The Hockaday School), a member of the women's track and field team, has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team for women's cross country and track and field for the 2012-13 season.  CoSIDA recognizes outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments by honoring deserving athletes with All-Academic recognition with the official sponsor of Capital One.

Carnegie Mellon is part of District 4 which is comprised of all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania.

Guevel, who is a civil engineering major and carries a 3.47 GPA, recently competed at the NCAA Outdoor Division III Track and Field Championships in the 100- and 400-meter hurdles. Earlier this season at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships, Guevel claimed the individual title in the both events for the second time in her career, the last coming in her freshman campaign.

For her career, Guevel is part of nine school records, six individual, and two UAA records for indoor and outdoor track and field.  The junior is a four-time All-American (indoor and outdoor) and 12-time All-UAA selection in track & field.  In 2011, she was named UAA Rookie of the Year and Most Outstanding Performer in running events for both the indoor and outdoor seasons, becoming the first-ever athlete to win both honors in the same year for both seasons. That same year she was named the Mideast Region Track Athlete of the Year.

Guevel now moves on to the national ballot for Capital One Academic All-America consideration.
