Tartans Win Six Events at W&L Track and Field Carnival
(LEXINGTON, Va.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team started the outdoor season at the Washington and Lee University Track and Field Carnival. The Tartans won six events and finished second in three.
Freshman Kate Reilly (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Prep) won the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:51.01 while fellow freshman Rachel Reolfi (North Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic) was sixth in 5:04.32. In the 5,000-meter race, junior Aparna Alavilli (Hanover , N.H./Hanover) placed second with a time of 18:12.34. Freshman Abigail Levine (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase) also ran the 5,000-meter race and finished sixth in 18:48.89.
Junior Sarah Cook (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) and sophomore Rose Ciriello (Madison, N.J./Madison) finished 1-2 in the 800-meter run with Cook registering a career-best time of 2:16.96 and Rose a time of 2:18.83.
The 4x400-meter relay of senior Ariel Tian (Acton, Mass./Acton Boxborough Regional), Ciriello, senior Jerilyn James (Friendswood, Texas/Clear Brook) and Cook placed second in 4:14.58.
Tian earned a first-place finish in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:00.22
Freshman Leah Kendrick (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) crossed the finish line of the 100-meter hurdles in 16.25 to place second while freshman Keegan Barone (Chicago, Ill./Latin School of Chicago) placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:12.45.
More first-place finishes for the Tartans came in the long jump when sophomore Autumn Hair (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) earned a mark of 4.90 meters and in the high jump when senior Rebecca Fortner (Navarre, Ohio/Fairless) cleared 1.53 meters. Hair also tallied a fourth-place finish when she recorded a mark of 10.03 meters in the triple jump.
Senior Grace Yee (San Francisco, Calif./Lick-Wilmerding) won the pole vault when she cleared 3.34 meters on the first attempt. Freshman Michelle Karabin (Ruffs Dale, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) also cleared 3.34 meters but on her third attempt.
Sophomore Alexa Barriero (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) recorded a career-best mark in the javelin when she threw it 33.30 meters to place third.
Freshman Julianne Igbokwe (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) threw the shot put 10.71 meters to close the meet with a fourth-place finish.
