Tartans Place Second at Noke Elite Meet Hosted by Roanoke College
(ROANOKE, Va.) — The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team placed second out of seven teams at the Noke Elite meet hosted by Roanoke College on Saturday. The women scored 157 points against first place Washington & Lee University who scored 161.
Freshman Liz Barre (Ithaca, N.Y. / Taft) placed second in the high jump clearing 1.55 meters, and freshman Serena Li (San Jose, Calif. / Lynbrook) tied for third clearing 1.50 meters. Li also placed second in the long jump with 4.98 meters, and fellow freshman Francine Leung (Port Jefferson, N.Y. / The Stony Brook School) placed sixth with 4.77 meters.
Junior Ally Tully (Chappaqua, N.Y. / Horace Greeley) took seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 12.93 meters. Tully also placed sixth in the shot put with 10.47 meters.
Senior Michelle Karabin (Ruffs Dale, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic) won the pole vault clearing 3.35 meters, while senior Joanna Baranowski (Syosset, N.Y. / Syosset) took second with 3.20 meters.
Senior Leah Kendrick (Doylestown, Pa. / Central Bucks East) placed third in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.51 while Barre placed fourth just milliseconds behind in 9.67. Sophomore Sami Johnson (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Thousand Oaks) placed fourth in the triple jump covering 9.96 meters.
In the women's mile, senior Kate Reilly (Scranton, Pa. / Scranton Prep) placed second in a time of 5:15, while senior Wade Lacey (Albany, N.Y. / The Albany Academies) took third in 5:18, and senior Valerie Collins (Wellesley, Mass. / Wellesley) placed fifth in a time of 5:23.
Freshman Samantha Giordani (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Ambridge) won both the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash. The freshman ran to a time of 1:00 in the 400-meter and 25.77 in the 200. Sophomore Taylor Jacobs (Bozeman, Mont. / The Taf) placed second in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:25.
Senior Abigail Levine (Bethesda, Md. / Bethesda Chevy Chase) won the 3,000-meter run in a time of 10:31. Sophomore Kristen Seballos (Cleveland, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) placed fourth in a time of 10:45 and freshman Joyce Zhang (Great Falls, Va. / Langley) took sixth in a time of 10:56.
The Tartan's 4x400-meter team of Baranowski, Jacobs, freshman Jasmine Fahrenkrug (Vestal, N.Y. / Vestal), and Giordani closed out the meet with a win in 4:12.
The Tartans will compete next at Kent State University and Baldwin-Wallace College on Friday, February 14th.
