Tartans Turn in Eight Top Three Finishes at Annual Invite, Place Second as a Team
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team hosted its annual Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Gesling Stadium. The Tartans placed second in a field comprised of Division I, II and III institutions with 96 team points while Duquesne University won the invite with 106 points.
Top Performances on the Track:
- Senior Samantha Giordani took first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.49 and ran the 100-meter dash in 12.58 to place third.
- Barre took third in the 400-meter run with junior Isabella Rhee placing fifth with times of 57.63 and 59.47, respectively.
- Sophomore Norah Czajka started the running events with a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as she crossed with a personal-best time of 12:23.98.
- The 4x400-meter relay team of Rhee, junior Emily Lannen, senior Mona Yuan and senior Kavya Tummalapalli took third place in a time of 4:11.02.
- Freshman Margaret Ann Healy crossed in third in the 3,000-meter run with a tie of 11:00.63 and sophomore Avery Tompkins took fifth in 11:15.76.
- The 5,000-meter run had sophomore Alyssa Hoffman place fifth with a time of 18:11.59.
- Freshman Jacqueline Liu took fifth place in the 800-meter run crossing in 2:19.24.
Top Performances in the Field:
- Senior Liz Barre placed second in the long jump with a school record mark of 5.52 meters. She topped her previous school record mark of 5.48 meters set last season.
- Junior JoJo Huczko placed second in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 3.10 meters.
- Sophomore Katie Monahan tossed the shot put 12.01 meters to take fifth.
