Barre Named UAA Field Athlete of the Week

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Senior Liz Barre of the Carnegie Mellon University women's outdoor track and field team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week for field events. The senior earned the honor following her performance at the Susquehanna Multi last Thursday and Friday.

Barre won the heptathlon with a school record 5,017 points which breaks her own record of 4,545 set last season. The senior also set two additional school records while winning three events and placing second in three others. Her school records came in the high jump and long jump while placing first in both events. She cleared the bar at an outdoor school record height of 1.70 meters and recorded a jump of 5.53 meters in the long jump. Barre topped both her previous outdoor school record marks, which were 1.68 meters in the high jump set last season and 5.52 meters in the long jump set two weeks ago at the CMU Invitational. Her third victory came in the 200-meter dash where she crossed in a personal-best time of 25.47.

She currently ranks second in the nation and tops in the UAA in the heptathlon. Barre is also ranked first in the UAA in the high jump and long jump while ranking second and 13th, respectively, nationally.

The Tartans will next compete at the Carnegie Mellon Last Chance Meet Thursday, April 13.
