Tartans Compete at Penn State and Mount Union

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team competed at the Penn State Last Chance Meet on Friday and the Mount Union Tune Up at the University of Mount Union on Saturday.

Top Performances on the Track at Penn State:

  • Senior Liz Barre finished first in the 60-meter hurdle with a time of 8.75.
  • Senior Sophia Zalewski finished fifth in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:24.46, followed by freshman Maya Ducker with a time of 10:30.63.
  • Sophomore Jacqueline Liu finished 11th in the mile with a time of 5:17.47.

Top Performances on the Field Penn State:

  • Barre finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 5.31 meters.
  • Barre also finished second with a mark of 1.65 meters in the high jump.

Top Performances on the Track at Mount Union:

  • Freshman Kara Mathias finished first in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:24.25.
  • Freshman Alaina Patel finished fourth in the mile with a time of 5:33.08.
  • Sophomore Shanaya Irani finished second with a time of 8:51 in the 60-meter dash.
  • Irani also finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.99.

Top Performances in the Field at Mount Union:

  • Junior Taylor Symonette finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 11.14 meters.
  • Sophomore Iniyaa Mohanraj finished first in the triple jump with a mark of 10.70 meters, with freshman Samantha Lee in third with a mark of 9.74 meters.
  • Mohanraj finished third in the long jump with a mark of 4.85 meters, followed by Lee with a mark of 4.84 meters.
  • Senior JoJo Huczko finished second with a mark of 3.37 meters in the pole vault. Freshman Hazel Bounopane finished fifth with a mark of 3.37 meters.
  • Junior Kayla Rountree finished fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 13.33 meters.

Notes

  • Matthias broke a personal record with her victory in the 3000-meter run time.
  • Patel also broke a personal record in her mile run.
  • Rountree broke her personal record in the weight throw by .25 meters.
