Tartans in Fifth Place After First Day of UAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's track and field team opened the University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, April 27 by scoring 25 points through seven scored events on their home track and field at Gesling Stadium. The Tartans are currently in fifth place.

Top Performances on the Track:

  • The 4x800 meter relay team placed third with a time of 9:19.76 with senior Emily Lannen leading off the race followed by sophomore Orit Shiang and sophomore Margaret Ann Healy, and closing with senior Isabella Rhee.
  • Junior Avery Tompkins and Alyssa Hoffman finished the night in the 10,000-meter race, earning points for the Tartans by placing sixth and seventh, respectively in 38:46.03 and 38:57.27. Tompkins time is a career-best, as it was the first time she has competed in the event.
  • Sophomore Alaina Patel hit a personal record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:23.38.

Top Performances in the Field:

  • Graduate student Liz Barre took third place in the long jump with a leap of 5.57 meters.
  • Sophomore Zoe King earned points for the team by placing fifth in the long jump with a mark of 5.31 meters.
  • Senior JoJo Huczko placed fifth in the pole vault after clearing 3.31 meters on her second attempt.
  • Junior Taylor Symonette placed eighth in the shot put with a mark of 11.95 meters.
