Tartans Win in Five Over St. Vincent

(LATROBE, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon women's volleyball team traveled to Latrobe, Pa. Tuesday, September 13 and came away with a 3-2 victory over the Bearcats of St. Vincent College.  The Tartans even their record at 5-5 while handing the Bearcats their second lost of the season as they are now 7-2.

The Tartans fell behind two games to one after the first three games were decided by the score 25-23, with the Bearcats taking the first and third.  Carnegie Mellon forced a game five after coming away with a 25-19 victory in game four before taking game five, 15-12.

Sophomore Senna Parsa (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) led the way with a career-high 20 kills in the victory.  Fellow sophomore Rachel Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) added a season-high 13 kills while freshman Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) recorded a career-high 12 kills to head the offense for the Tartans.

Sophomore setter Emily Wright (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly)once again recorded a game-high 31 assists while picking up nine digs.  Senior Emily Baddock (Houston, Texas/Dulles) headed the defense with 11 digs.

The Tartans were strong defensively at the net, as they recorded four block solos and 23 block assists.  Leading the charge at the net was senior Madeline Rosnick (Fallsington, Pa./Pennsbury), as she tallied nine block assists and one solo block.  Parsa ended the match with five block assists and a sole while Celentano also added a solo block and four assists.

The Tartans will be back in action Friday night in the first match of the two-day Carnegie Mellon Quad.  The Cardinal and Gray will face Adrian at 8:00 p.m. Friday on the hardwood of Skibo Gymnasium.
