Tartans Even Overall Mark With Three Wins at Home Invitational

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team hosted its annual invite Friday and Saturday, September 14-15.  The Tartans posted a mark of 3-1 improving their overall record to 7-7.  The Cardinal and Gray picked up victories over Scranton, Pitt Greensburg and Elmira while dropping a match to Johns Hopkins.

On Friday the Tartans topped the University of Scranton 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 27-25) before falling against John Hopkins 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-22). Against Scranton, sophomore Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) led with 10 kills and five total blocks. Junior Senna Parsa (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) totaled nine kills, seven digs and two total blocks.  Also helping at the net was junior Olivia Mora (San Antonio, Texas/Saint Mary's Hall) with four total blocks and freshman Rebecca Wolfinger (Pleasnaton, Calif./Amador Valley) had four block assists. Junior setter Emily Wright (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) picked up 22 assists and eight digs, as sophomore Ali Nichols (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) led with 19 digs.

In Friday's nightcap with Johns Hopkins, Celentano led the attack with 11 kills as Wright picked up 21 assists and 11 digs. Junior Rachel Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) also recorded 11 digs while Nichols led with 13 digs and Parsa ended with 12.

In Saturday's first match, the Tartans downed Pitt Greensburg 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-7) while hitting .449 for the match.  Celentano once again led the attack hitting .875 with 14 kills. Parsa recorded three service aces while Wright had 14 assists and freshman Emily Lawlis (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) tallied 16.

Closing out Saturday's action was a Tartan victory against Elmira.  In the 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-17) win, Celentano led with 17 kills while Parsa tallied 14. Wright assisted on 36 points and Nichols picked up 16 digs while Parsa had 13.

The Tartans travel to Huntingdon, Pa., on September 21st and 22nd to compete in the Juniata Tournament.  Carnegie Mellon will play Franklin & Marshall at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
