Tartans Split a Pair of Matches at Day One of UAA Round Robin #2

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team competed at the first day of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #2 and split a pair of matches.  The tow-day round robin is being hosted by the Tartans. Carnegie Mellon is now 11-13 overall and 1-4 in UAA play.

The Tartans opened play with a 3-0 victory over the University of Rochester winning by the scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-21.  Juniors Senna Parsa (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) and Rachel Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron)led the team with 14 and 11 kills while hitting .480 and .455, respectively.  Miller added 12 digs, as Parsa recorded 10.  Leading the defense in the win was fellow junior Ali Nichols (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) with 21 digs.  

Junior setter Emily Wright (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) totaled 14 assists while freshman Emily Lawlis (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) had 15.  Wright also tallied two service aces along with Parsa.

In the Tartans nightcap against Case Western Reserve, the home team fell 3-0 by the scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 26-24. Parsa once again led the attack with 11 kills and sophomore Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) collected 10 in the setback.  Lawlis recorded 22 assists while Nichols led the Tartans with 18 digs.

Carnegie Mellon will compete in the second day of the UAA Round Robin #2 Sunday, October 14.  The Tartans will play #1 Washington University at 10:00 a.m. before facing Brandeis at 12:00 p.m.
