(CLEVELAND, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team continued its success winning two more matches in the Marcia French Memorial Tournament at Case Western Reserve University. The Tartans improve to 8-1 on the season and have won their last five matches.
The team took the court early against Medaille College where junior Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) had 16 kills and fellow teammate and senior Senna Parsa (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) hit for 13 kills. Molly Higgins (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) added to the team's success with two serving aces.
The defense was quick on their feet as Ali Nichols (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) had 12 digs, Higgins contributed 11 digs, and Parsa also added 10 digs for the Cardinal and Gray. Freshmen Kristen Flint (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) and Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) had three block assists and two block assists, respectively.
In the second match versus Geneva College, the Tartans did not let up. They beat the Golden Tornadoes 3-0. Celentano, struck again, with 18 kills while Parsa added 10.
Senior Olivia Mora (San Antonio, Texas/Saint Mary's Hall) led the defensive play with six block assists. Nichols had 13 digs and Higgins added eight more.
Emily Lawlis (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) had 31 assists against Medaille and improved to 36 assists against Geneva earning her a spot on the Marcia French Memorial All-Tournament Team.
The Tartans have their next match at home in Skibo Gymnasium on September 11, at 7:00 p.m. against the Marietta College Pioneers.
