Tartans Complete Regular Season with 23rd Victory

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team finished its regular season with a 3-0 victory over visiting Allegheny College as the team celebrated its six seniors on Saturday, November 2. The Tartans are now 23-8 on the year as the Gators fell to 8-19.

The Tartans tallied 16 kills in the first set, winning the set 25-17. Senior Senna Parsa (Bellevue, Wash./Newport) picked up five of her match high 11 kills in the set while fellow senior Mary Stadelman (Washington, Pa./Trinity) had four of her total eight kills in the set.

In the second set, Parsa again tallied five kills as senior Olivia Mora (San Antonio, Texas/Saint Mary's Hall) had four kills with the Tartans taking the point 25-13.

A total of nine kills led the Tartans in set three, which they won 25-7. Junior Ali Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) had three kills as Mora and Stadelman each had two for the set.

Freshman Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) played two of the three sets as the setter and tallied 23 assists with sophomore Emily Lawlis (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands College Park) picking up 10 assists, all in the second set.

Defensively, senior Ali Nichols (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) led with 11 digs while senior Rachel Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) picked up seven digs and two service aces. Senior Kerry Hennessy (Walnut Creek, Calif./Bentley) also had a service ace and five digs.

The Tartans will next be in action when they travel to Brandeis University for the University Athletic Association Championships on Friday, November 8 and Saturday, November 9. The team opens the tournament against New York University at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
