Volleyball Remains Perfect with Win Over Saint Vincent

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team hosted Saint Vincent College Wednesday, September 9 and won 3-0 (25-9, 25-20, 25-10).  The victory marked the Tartans seventh straight to open the season as they now sit at 7-0 while the Bearcats move to 2-5.
    
Carnegie Mellon's offense was spread out on the evening.  Leading the Tartans with five kills was freshman Sydney Bauer (Allen, Texas) while four others chipped in with four each; junior Jackie Gibbons (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) and freshmen Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown SIEM Academy), Sarah Jurgens (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) and Lizzy Thrasher (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili).   Junior setter Emily Newton (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Chadwick School) recorded 21 assists and three service aces in the win.

Defensively, Mueller recorded a season-high four block assists as sophomore Casey Salandra (Carol Steam, Ill./St. Francis) also tabbed a season-best three.  
    
The Tartans will next play at the 17th Annual Marcia French Memorial Invitational held in Cleveland, Ohio on the campuses of Case Western Reserve University and Baldwin Wallace University.  Carnegie Mellon will begin play on Friday, September 11 against Thiel College at 5:30 p.m. before playing Buffalo State at 7:30 p.m.  Both matches will be played at Case Western Reserve.
