(ALLENTOWN, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team continued play at the Muhlenberg College Quad on Saturday with wins over SUNY Cortland and Franklin & Marshall College. The pair of victories extends the Tartans win streak to four, as they improve to 6-5 on the young season. The Cardinal and Gray started the day with a straight set win over Cortland, winning 25-8, 25-22, 25-16 before topping F&M 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-18, 25-22).
Against Cortland, senior Sarah Jurgens (Eagan, Minn./Eagan) led with 10 kills and hit .474. Junior Maia So-Holloway (Oakland, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) dished out 20 assists. The Tartans recorded seven service aces with senior Lauren Mueller (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown SIEM Academy) and junior Kayla Yew (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral) each accounting for two apiece.
Yew led the defense with 14 digs while senior Sydney Bauer (Allen, Texas/Allen) added 11 in the win.
In the Tartans win over F&M, Mueller and Jurgens both had 14 kills while junior Erika Foose (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) chipped in with 10. So-Holloway ended the match with 35 assists and four aces.
Defensively, Yew had 26 digs, So-Holloway 14 and Mueller 10. At the net, Jurgens recorded four block assists and junior Sahara Aqui (Miramar, Fla./Archbishop McCarthy) had three.
The Tartans will host Franciscan University on Tuesday, September 18 at 7:00 p.m.
