Tartans Push #25 Christopher Newport in First Loss of Season

(HUNTINGDON, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team played its first ranked opponent of the season at the Juniata College Asics Invitational on Friday, September 8. The Tartans dropped a closely contested four-set match to 25th-ranked Christopher Newport University and are now 4-1 for the season.

Inside The Box Score

  • The first set went to Christopher Newport by a 28-26 score. Sophomore Katherine Jackson twice tied the score late in the set with kills.
  • Jackson finished with 10 kills and a .222 hitting percentage.
  • Senior Laura Reichard led the team with 11 kills and tallied a double-double with 11 digs.
  • The Tartans won the second set 25-23 before falling 25-18 and 25-19 in the third and fourth sets.
  • Senior Mindee Lai dished out 32 assists and had 10 digs.
  • Junior Abby Chen led with 20 digs while senior Jane Dean led at the net with three block assists.

  • The Tartans are now 2-2 against the Captains after facing off in Huntingdon, Pa., in three of the four meetings.
