Four Tartans Earn All-UAA Volleyball Honors

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Four Carnegie Mellon University volleyball players have been honored on the 2023 All-University Athletic Association (UAA) Volleyball Team with senior Mindee Lai and sophomore Elizabeth Schlemmer earning second-team recognition. Seniors Jane Dean and Laura Reichard were recognized as honorable mention selections.

Lai helped orchestrate the Tartans' offense as the primary setter, dishing out 234 assists in UAA play for a 9.00 average per set which was third in the league. Her 841 assists for the season were second in the UAA. Lai collected seven matches with 40 or more assists and recorded a career-best 54 against the University of Mount Union. She also had 46 assists against ninth-ranked Emory for a career-high against UAA opponents.

Schlemmer led the team with 309 kills and a kills average of 2.71 per set. With 65 kills in 204 attempts, Schlemmer hit .147 in UAA play. The sophomore opposite also picked up 52 digs and 12 blocks in the seven UAA matches. The second-team selection marks Schlemmer's second year on the All-Association Team, as she was an honorable mention selection last year.

Dean earned her third award from the UAA coaches with her second nod on the honorable mention team. A middle blocker, Dean had three block solos and 11 total blocks during UAA competition and hit .230 with 51 kills in 148 attempts. She finished fourth on the team in kills with 190 for the season amassing more than 600 for her career while she led the team in total blocks with 66, putting her tied for 19th in program history with 216 blocks.

Reichard led the team in digs with 112 in UAA play while she was second in kills with 54 as an outside hitter. The senior also recorded 12 service aces which was fourth on the team and seventh in the UAA for the seven league games. Reichard tallied 274 kills for the season and 475 digs which was second-best on the team in both categories. She had a season-best 18 kills against the University of Chicago and reached double-digit kills in 16 games for the season while she accumulated 27 games with double-digit digs. In a little more than three years as a Tartan, Reichard put down 745 kills and picked up 1,304 digs to rank 23rd and 12th respectively, in program history.
