Tartans Place Third at UAA Championship

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's cross country team placed third at the 2021 University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Cross Country Championship Saturday at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester, New York. The Tartans placed five runners in the top 20 on the 6k course to finish with 79 points. Washington University in St. Louis won the race with 32 points. It marks the highest finish for the Tartans since placing third in 2012 as well.

Senior Kristen Seballos (Cleveland, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) was the first Tartan to cross, as she finished in 11th with a time of 23:20.5. Sophomore Megan Baker (Exton, Pa. / B. Reed Henderson) placed 14th with a time of 23:35.4. Both Seballos and Baker earn All-UAA Second Team honors for their finish.

Freshman Cora Marcet (Naperville, Ill. / Naperville Central) third Tartan to cross the line with a time of 23:37.6 and placed 15th. Graduate student Michelle Murray (Greenlawn, N.Y. / Harborfields) and freshman Sophia Zalewski (Piedmont, Calif. / Piedmont) crossed fourth and fifth for the Tartans with times of 23:54.6 and 23:55.5, respectively. Murray placed 19th and Zalewski placed 20th.

The Tartans will next race in the NCAA Mideast Regional at Big Spring High School in Newton, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, November 13.
