This Week in Tartans History - April 5-11, 2019

With our 2020 seasons cut short, we are honoring our spring athletes with a look back at their many accomplishments during their time as Tartans. We hope you enjoy celebrating these past performances.

Softball

The Tartans played six games and turned in three wins throughout the week, including playing and winning the first extra-inning contest in program history with a 6-4 win over Saint Vincent College in nine innings. The Tartans opened play taking game four of a four-game series over Case Western Reverse University which marked the program’s first University Athletic Association (UAA) victory. The Cardinal and Gray then swept Saint Vincent in a midweek doubleheader.

In the Tartans’ 7-1 win over Case Western Reserve, Scotty McGee posted her seventh complete game on the season, as she struck out eight batters and allowed six hits. McGee was perfect at the plate recording four singles with an RBI.

McGee’s stellar play on the mound continued in the Tartans’ sweep of Saint Vincent. She didn’t allow an earned run in 9.2 innings pitched in the series while striking out 15 and accounted for the save in game one and the win in the Tartans’ 6-4 nine-inning game two victory. Piper Johnson went 4-of-8 at the plate in the series with three doubles while Io Jette-Kouri tabbed three singles and four RBIs, including a single in the top half of the ninth inning that knocked in two, including what proved to be the winning run.

“This week was a pivotal week for our young program,” recalls head coach Monica Harrison. “The win at Case Western versus a strong conference competitor who made it to the NCAA World Series the previous year was a big win. The girls learned a lot that weekend and came together to get a win to close the series and were able to take that momentum into the mid-week non-conference double header. When you're a young program, it's about the growth and the process, and this week was the epitome of it.”
