NCAA Division III Week (April 13-19th) is an opportunity to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes at Carnegie Mellon University. The Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) took to social media in an effort to celebrate and recognize the powerful impact Tartan student-athletes and athletic programs have on Carnegie Mellon and the surrounding Pittsburgh Community. The 30 members of SAAC organized a social media campaign with the goal of celebrating their accomplishments both on and off the field as well as connecting the greater student-athlete community.

“We are very proud of our athletic accomplishments this year and our student-athlete engagement,” stated SAAC President Stefanie McMillan. “D3Week is all about celebrating our accomplishments and determination to rise to the occasion. This has been an historic season at Carnegie Mellon and every single one of our 462 student-athletes have contributed to that. We want to thank the university for providing our student-athletes with the resources and support for us to excel both academically and athletically!”

Through a series of daily Instagram posts, SAAC members took the time to reflect on the reasons they chose to continue their athletic and academic careers at Carnegie Mellon. Members voiced that they value the opportunity to study at the university while simultaneously competing against top Division III athletic programs across the nation.

In addition to the Tartans on-field accomplishments, SAAC has organized several community service initiatives in recent years which include; a Lincoln Elementary Tutoring Program, Annual Tartan Field Day for over 100 local children in the community, as well assisting in the planning and operation of the Special Olympics of Western Pennsylvania Sectional each Spring.
