Although spread out across the nation with some teammates even in their home countries, Carnegie Mellon University student-athletes have stayed connected through student-led events. One of those events, which was slated to take place on campus for the third straight year in April, was the Plaidvocates Chopped-Style Cook-Off. With everyone now away from campus, the plan needed to change and the Plaidvocates and student-athletes were up to the task.

Upon hearing the news that all campus functions would be cancelled for the remainder of the semester, the Plaidvocates were, like so many other hardworking Carnegie Mellon University organizations, very disappointed. As dedicated servants of wellness, the group applauds and wholly supports the University for making these difficult decisions to protect the health and safety of the campus and community and contribute towards stopping the spread of the Covid-19 virus worldwide.

On March 24, 2019, a group of more than thirty student-athletes came together to converse on the topic of how their upbringing in different regions of the United States and international regions have affected their reflections and experiences at CMU.

On Saturday, May 5, the Plaidvocates hosted Happy Days. The event was geared toward creating a stress free environment or one in which stresses could be forgotten.

On Wednesday, April 11, the Plaidvocates hosted a BBQ in the center of Carnegie Mellon University’s campus to help raise awareness of sexual assault and relationship violence. The event was timed in conjunction with Sexual Assault and Relationship Violence Prevention Week.
