The Carnegie Mellon University football team had 11 student-athletes named to the 2017 National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers.

Carnegie Mellon University football senior Samer Abdelmoty (McLean, Va./McLean) and men’s soccer senior Andreas Fatschel (Seven Fields, Pa./Seneca Valley) have been selected to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship for excelling academically and athletically while showing leadership and commitment to the community. Abdelmoty and Fatschel are two of 29 male fall athletes to receive the award across all three NCAA divisions.

The Carnegie Mellon University football team landed 40 members on the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Academic Honor Roll for the Fall 2016 semester. For the third consecutive fall, the Tartans had the most football players honored amongst the 11 schools that sponsor football in the PAC. Of the 40, 15 maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA during the first semester.

Junior running back Sam Benger (Hingham, Mass.) of the Carnegie Mellon University football team was named a member of the 2016 D3football.com All-America team as announced Friday evening prior to the 2016 Stagg Bowl in Salem, Virginia. After landing a spot as honorable mention a year ago, Benger garnered second team accolades this season.

Senior defensive end Brian Khoury (Davenport, Iowa/Bettendorf) of the Carnegie Mellon University football team has been named a national finalist for the 2016 Cliff Harris Award, which is presented to the top small college defensive player in the nation. The finalist list was announced Friday afternoon and this marks Khoury’s second straight season as a finalist.

Junior running back Sam Benger (Hingham, Mass.) of the Carnegie Mellon University football team repeated as an AFCA Division III Coaches’ All-America as announced today by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). Benger found a spot on the first team, as this marks the first season that the AFCA is selecting a first and second team. He is one of four repeat honorees and also one of four non-seniors named to the 25-member first-team squad.

For the second straight season, the Carnegie Mellon University football team had four members named to the D3football.com 2016 All-South Region Team. Heading the squad for the Tartans is junior running back Sam Benger (Hingham, Mass.) as a repeat first team selection. Benger was also named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Offensive Player of the Year, becoming the first Tartan to garner the award.

Three were named to the first team with one to the second team as senior Brian Khoury (Davenport, Iowa/Bettendorf) and junior Sam Benger (Hingham, Mass.) are repeat selections.

A pair of seniors, defensive lineman Brian Khoury (Davenport, Iowa/Bettendorf) and placekicker Gabe Renna (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon), of the Carnegie Mellon University football team headline the University Athletic Association (UAA) postseason awards. Khoury received Defensive Player of the Year honors for the second straight season while Renna was named Special Teams Player of the Year. The two are joined by 16 other Tartans who garnered recognition with 10 receiving first-team accolades.

The Carnegie Mellon University football team competed in the 2016 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Legacy Bowl on Sunday, and dropped a 52-20 decision to the Sea Gulls of Salisbury University. The game was held on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

The Carnegie Mellon University football team will play Salisbury University in the 2016 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Legacy Bowl Championship Sunday, November 20. Kick is set for 11:00 a.m. on the turf at Franklin Field on the campus of University of Pennsylvania, who are serving as host in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

For the second consecutive year, junior Sam Benger (Hingham, Mass.) of the Carnegie Mellon University football team was named Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Offensive Player of the Year. In total 13 Tartans received All-PAC distinction for the 2016 season, as announced by the conference office following voting by the league coaches on Tuesday, November 15. Of the 13, three others join Benger on the first team, five on the second team and four were named honorable mention. After starting the season 2-3, the Tartans won their last five regular season contests to finish with a mark of 7-3 overall and 6-2 in the PAC, tied for third.

After finishing the regular season with a 7-3 overall record for the second straight season and winners of five straight, the Carnegie Mellon University football team was selected to play in the 2016 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Legacy Bowl Championship Sunday, November 20 against Salisbury University. The Tartans will look to defend their Legacy Bowl title from last year when they defeated Bridgewater State, 48-13, New Britain, Connecticut.

The Carnegie Mellon University football team traveled to Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) and University Athletic Association (UAA) rival Case Western Reserve University for the 31st Annual Academic Bowl on Saturday, November 12. For the second straight season, the Tartans won a thriller over the 21st-ranked Spartans, 26-21, and claimed a share of the UAA championship. The Association title marks the 10th in program history. The contest counts towards both the PAC and UAA standings.
