Men's Soccer Team Plants Trees and Cleans Up Local Park

On Sunday, April 29, the Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team joined forces to serve the community along the park boarding the Pittsburgh campus. The team was able to take advantage of the sunny afternoon by planting trees and removing invasive plants from the area around the Schenley Park Visitors Center on Panther Hollow Drive.

Senior Nick Gianopoulos (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) of the Carnegie Mellon University men’s soccer team has been awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. Gianopoulos will receive a one-time, nonrenewable grant of $7,500 to be used for part-time or full-time postgraduate study at a university or professional school.

This is Gianopoulos' first Academic All-America honor after receiving All-District honors twice.

Beginning as one of the most decorated goalkeepers in men’s soccer program history, Kartzman spent his next six years working for C-bridge Internet Solutions, Bridgeline Software and Accenture before developing Spongecell in January 2006. Now, just a few years in, Spongecell has been identified as one of the top 100 fastest growing companies in the country according to Inc. Magazine.

The Tartans move to 6-7-1 overall and 2-3 in the University Athletic Association. The Violets drop to 7-7-1 and 2-3.
