(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - After a near three-hour delay to the start of the men's soccer game at the University of Rochester, the Carnegie Mellon University Tartans fell 1-0 to the Yellowjackets to move to 6-3-3 for the year and 0-2-1 in the University Athletic Association (UAA). Rochester improved to 6-2-3 and 1-2-0.
The shot totals were even in the first period but Rochester turned away five Tartan shots that were on frame while senior Ethan Kalis (Riverwoods, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) made one save for the Cardinal and Gray.
The Yellowjackets were able to find the back of the net in the 56th minute after Tommy Nelson put a free kick in a dangerous area where Will Eisold was able to head it low and to the left past the defense and Kalis.
With 20 seconds remaining, junior Kiran Sarvepalli (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) had a chance to equalize but Santino Lupica-Tondo made the save and Rochester held on for the win.
The Tartans will next travel to Atlanta, Georgia, to play 15th-ranked Emory University (6-1-4, 1-0-2) on Sunday, October 17 at 1:30 p.m.
