Gonzalez Named UAA Rookie of the Year, Two Others Honored
(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Freshman Tristan Gonzalez of the Carnegie Mellon University men's soccer team has been named the 2024 All-University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Soccer Rookie of the Year with two teammates joining him on the All-Association team. Gonzalez also earned second-team honors along with senior Eli Kampine, with sophomore Kai Yamamoto garnering honorable mention accolades.
Gonzalez tallied his two goals in UAA play while he earned two assists in games early in September. The first-year Tartan started 11 of 16 games played and tallied 892 minutes which was second-best in the midfield and the top for the attacking players. One of his goals was the game-winner against UAA Champion Emory University.
Kampine logged the most minutes for the Tartans at 1,282 playing center back for the team that finished the 17-game season with an 8-4-5 record and a goals against average of .94 with five shutouts.
Yamamoto stepped into the starting goalkeeper role seven games into the season and finished with a 4-2-4 record, recording three shutouts. He had a stretch where he made eight saves in a 1-0 win against Emory, seven saves in a 0-0 tie at WashU, and 11 saves in a 1-1 tie at UChicago.
