Doubles Teams Dominant in 5-4 Loss to Washington University in Semifinals of UAA Championships

(ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla.) – The 13th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team fell to #17 Washington University 5-4 in the semifinals of the 2012 University Athletic Association Championships Friday, April 27.  The championships this season are being played at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.  The Tartans are now 13-7 while the Bears improve to 15-5.
    
Carnegie Mellon started the match sweeping doubles play to take a 3-0 lead. The tandem of junior Duke Miller (Poway, Calif./Poway) and freshman Will Duncan (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) grabbed the first Tartan point with an 8-4 victory at first doubles. After freshman Thomas Cooper (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) and junior Jooho Yu (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) won at second doubles, the freshmen duo of Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) and Bryce Beisswanger (Los Angeles, Calif./Viewpoint School) won 9-8 (8) at third doubles as they fought off three match points.

The Cardinal and Gray's lone point in singles play came when Cooper won a straight set match over Parker Chang at fifth singles.

The Tartans will face #21 Case Western Reserve at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 28 for third place.
