Miller and Duncan Compete at NCAA Championships

(CARY, N.C.) – Carnegie Mellon University junior Duke Miller (Poway, Calif./Poway) and freshman Will Duncan (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) competed at the 2012 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships on Thursday, May 24 with Miller competing in singles play and alongside Duncan in doubles play. It was the first trip to the NCAA Championships for both men's tennis players.

Miller drew Michael Razumovsky of Kenyon College in the singles first round. Razumovsky, a freshman ranked fourth in the Central Region, took the first set 6-3 before Miller, the fifth ranked player in the Atlantic South Region charged back in the second set. Razumousky was able to stave off the comeback by Miller winning the set 7-5 to move on to the round of 16.

Miller paired with Duncan in the late afternoon and faced Luis Rattenhuber and Austin Chafetz of Amherst College. In a competitive match, the pair from Carnegie Mellon found themselves down after the first set, falling 6-4, before forcing a third set wth a 6-4 win of their own. Rattenhuber and Chafetz then withstood everything the Tartan pair had winning 6-1 to move on to the quarterfinals.

It was a great season for Miller (14-13 record in singles) who played in the regional final of both singles and doubles of the ITA Championships in the fall. Duncan enjoyed a terrific first year pairing with Miller at the ITA Regional Championships and winning 21 of 27 matches for the year as well as earning a 17-6 singles record.
