No. 11 Tartans Top No. 22 Washington and Lee 6-3

(MONROEVILLE, Pa.) - The 11th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team came from behind to defeat the 22nd-ranked Washington and Lee University Generals by a 6-3 score, dominating singles play, to move its record to 13-5 on the season. The Generals fall to 11-3 for the year.

The Tartans, who fell behind after doubles play, earned it's first point with an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles by freshman Kiril Kirkov (Tampa, Fla./C. Leon King) and sophomore Joel Lankford (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon).

Kirkov then gave the Tartans a jump start in singles play as the teams played on three courts due to moving inside. The freshman won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles before sophomore Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) tied the score at 3-3 with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles.

Freshman Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) put the Tartans ahead 4-2 with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles before junior Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) secured the win at No. 2 singles in three sets, 6-3, 6-7(7-9), 6-1.

Freshman Kunal Wadwani (Saratoga, Calif./Ballarmine College Prep) earned the last point of the match to make it 6-3 with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles.

The Tartans will next face Grove City College at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 4 in Grove City.
