(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis sophomore, Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School), was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team. CoSIDA recognizes outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments by honoring deserving athletes with All-Academic recognition with the official sponsor of Capital One.

Carnegie Mellon is part of District 4 which is comprised of all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania.

Alla has recorded a memorable second season as a Tartan, winning the USTA/ITA National Small College Singles Championship in October and earning All-America honors. The sophomore helped lead the Tartans to the program's first-ever appearance in the University Athletic Association Championship title match and sixth visit to the NCAA tournament. The team also reached a national ranking of five, the highest in program history. To date, Alla has a singles record of 24-8, as he'll continue his season at the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championship on May 22-24.

For his career, Alla has amassed a singles record of 41-14, earned UAA Athlete of the Week four times with three coming in 2013-14, and was named the 2013 ITA Atlantic South Rookie of the Year and an ITA Scholar Athlete.

Alla is a civil and environmental engineering major with a minor in business administration and currently carries a 3.85 GPA. He is a member of the Mayur South Asian Student Alliance, the American Society of Civil Engineers and volunteers at Krushi Orphonage teaching kids tennis while engaging with children during festivals.

Alla will now move on to the national ballot for Capital One Academic All-America consideration.
