No. 11 Kenyon Stops Tartans' Streak at Six

(GAMBIER, Ohio) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team ran into a motivated Kenyon College team Sunday, April 5 on Kenyon's home court where the 11th-ranked Lords defeated the ninth-ranked Tartans 6-3. The Tartans are now 12-7 on the year while the Lords improve to 11-5.

Senior Bryce Beisswanger (Los Angeles, Calif./Viewpoint School) and junior Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School) started the scoring with an 8-1 win at third doubles for the Tartans. First and second doubles were both played to 9-7 scores as Kenyon pulled out both victories to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.

The Tartans tied the score at 2-2 when sophomore Kiril Kirkov (Tampa, Fla./C. Leon King) won 6-4, 6-2 at sixth singles.

Kenyon was able to take a 4-2 lead with wins at fourth and third singles before junior Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) won in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 at first singles to keep the Tartans alive.

Senior Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) forced a third set at second singles but was unable to tie the match as he fell 6-3, 6-7, 6-0 to Sam Geier who sealed the win for the Lords.

The Tartans will continue their road against top-ranked teams when they host the 19th-ranked University of Mary Washington on Saturday, April 11 and 10th-ranked Johns Hopkins University of Sunday, April 12.
