ITA Honors Men’s Tennis as All-Academic Team; 12 Named Scholar Athletes

(SKILLMAN, N.J.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team was honored for the sixth straight season and 13th time in the last 14 years by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as an ITA All-Academic Team. In addition, 12 players were named ITA Scholar Athletes.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above and the women's team achieved a cumulative average of 3.63 for the year.

In addition to the team honor, seniors Will Duncan (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park) and Christian Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass./Westwood), juniors Abhishek Alla (Hyderabad, India/IMG Pendleton School) and Yuvraj Kumar (New Delhi, India/Millfield School), sophomores Kiril Kirkov (Tampa, Fla./C. Leon King), Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) and Kunal Wadwani (Saratoga, Calif./Ballarmine College Prep), along with freshmen Edward Ang (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista), Jeffrey Chen (Carmel, Ind./Carmel), Tommy Cheng (Cupertino, Calif./Cupertino), Connor O'Kelly (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) and Andrew Pratt (Saratoga, Calif./Saint Francis) were named Scholar Athletes. All three sophomores amassed a 4.0 for the academic year.

In order to be eligible to be an ITA Scholar Athlete, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a GPA of at least 3.50 and been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters
