Six Named to Men’s Tennis All-UAA Team

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Six Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis players were named to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Tennis Team on Wednesday, May 17 following the 2016-17 season. This marks the first year the Association named an All-Tournament team and an All-UAA team.

Sophomore Daniel Levine (Highland Park, Ill./Boca Prep International School), along with freshmen Mark Prettyman (Fairfax, Va./Thomas Jefferson) and Michael Rozenvasser (Haworth, N.J./Northern Valley Regional), were named as first-team selections. Levine earned placement on the first team at first singles and first doubles after completing the regular season with the most singles wins on the team and a 21-7 record, including a 15-6 record at first singles in dual matches. Levine played first doubles all season and paired with Prettyman six times to collect a 5-1 record. For the season, the sophomore earned a doubles record of 21-11 with five different partners.

Rozenvasser tallied a singles record of 17-9 and was honored as a second singles player for the Tartans. The freshman had a remarkable fall when he registered a singles record of 11-3, with a 10-match winning streak, a championship finish at the ITA Southeast Regional, which earned him 2017 All-America honors, and a fourth-place finish on the national stage at the ITA Oracle Cup. An injury in the winter sidelined him for part of the spring season where he finished with a 6-6 singles mark.

Joining Levine, Prettyman and Rozenvasser on the All-UAA team is sophomore Chaz Downing (Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar), senior Kenny Zheng (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) and junior Jeffrey Chen (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) on the second team.

Like Levine, Downing earned two All-UAA awards at singles and doubles for his play at third singles and at second doubles with Chen. Downing finished the year with a singles mark of 13-8, earning a 6-4 mark at third singles. He also played second singles during the spring and accumulated a record of 6-2. Downing and Chen played the last 11 matches together at second doubles and amassed a record of 7-4.

Zheng finished his college career with a 19-7 singles mark and earned All-UAA status at fourth singles where he collected a record of 5-1. Zheng also played third singles for the Tartans, earning a record of 7-3, while he was 4-1 at second singles during the season.
